At RT Design Group, we are constantly generating new ideas together with our clients regarding design features, website functionality, and embedded content. As we generate ideas, we work through the design process, eventually completing the clients’ end goal: publishing their site. Our clients themselves have a variety of goals for their completed sites: business growth, awareness of issues/product, increasing web footprint, generating leads, etc. Throughout the process, though, idea generation is essential. What are a few of the ways that we arrive at a final website and generate ideas along the way? Here are just a few:
- Look at existing marketing material. As I talk through existing materials with clients, I find out what has worked for them and what hasn’t. What about your own look and feel do you love? What works, and what would you want to change, if you could? As you research your current identity, ideas will begin to flow.
- Get a sense of what your employees and established clients say about you. What are a few of the things that differentiate you? What makes your business special? These identifiers will help guide the design process. For example, if you are a small company that values community, we can together choose graphics and colors that evoke those values.
- Examine your history. How did you get your start? What prompted you to open your business? Some aspects of your history may help as we design your site.
- Research. Look at sites that you love and sites that you hate. Get a sense for what might work for your company — and look at your competitors’ sites and what those do. As you complete research, consistently communicate with us (your friendly web designer) regarding these preferences.
Creating a brand new website from scratch can be a fun process — as you examine your company and what makes you unique, you may also learn more about the creative website design process. Give us a call! We would love to help you out with your website’s look and feel.
