New Year -- New Goals

January 10, 2012 Web Design by Matt Rigg Share

It's already the middle of January -- have you come up with a strategic plan for your online presence for 2012? As a business owner, overseeing your online presence is of the utmost importance. Your company's sites -- its home website, blog, Facebook page, mobile device application, and other off-size social networking tools -- have the ability to sell your brand and work for your company 24 hours a day all year long. Make them count, and help them work for you this year.

Your Plan for 2012

Your plan for this year should include:

  1. A professionally designed website with highly functional tools. Maybe you have a website you're happy with -- maybe you don't. Maybe your website is not functioning in a way that works for you (eCommerce, search mechanisms, functionality, etc.) and you require additional onsite tools. Make 2012 the year you address these issues and proactively seek to set yourself apart from the competition. In any case, your website needs to be uniquely designed, professional, and rich with content. Pursue great overall site design and great programming (necessary tools), and get the website that your business needs.
  2. A website that appears correctly on multiple devices. How does your website appear on tablets? Smart phone devices? Oversee the appearance of your website on the varying devices on the market.
  3. Social media management. Your plan for 2012 should include oversight as it relates to social media. Though generally-accepted marketing "rules" for these sites are constantly in flux, you need to have some sort of plan as to what you would like to accomplish in terms of number of fans/followers/connections/views, etc., campaigns, marketing themes, response plans to word of mouth marketing online, etc.
  4. Content. Your strategic goals for 2012 need to address online content. In what ways are you generating content? In the age of new media, SEO, and the popularity of mobile devices, getting found on the internet depends upon original, onsite content and working, external "links back" (or as they are commonly referred to as backlinks) to your business' site. You can generate content through an on-site blog or newsfeed.
